From the invasion of Iraq to the selection of Sarah Palin, carelessness has characterized recent episodes of faux conservatism. Tuesday's probable repudiation of the Republican Party will punish characteristics displayed in the campaign's closing days.Note Will's insistence that we are seeing "faux conservatism" at work. My question at this point is this: is what is "faux" about recent conservative episodes that (a) McCain betrays true conservative principles, or that (b) the whole conservative movement is "faux" in nature. I guess: does the conservative movement itself define what conservatism is, or does Will have an ideal notion of conservative against which recent episodes are being implicitly compared. If so, what is it?
Additionally, the McCainiacs have unleashed their opposition research against...their vice presidential pick, Sarah Palin, and they've leaked it to the press.
Finger-pointing gallore!
Palin, after all, has "gone rogue" on the campaign trail, leaving one to wonder what the hell she'll do if McCain wins and she becomes the VP. We have here a true internecine conflict.
If I wasn't constantly waking up in the middle of the night in mortal terror that McCain will be our next president, I would likely be rolling on the floor and laughing.
