The run-up to Election Day had been characterized by dozens of lawsuits, especially in Ohio, where one case went before the Supreme Court. Democrats said they believed their opponents were attempting to supress [sic] turnout. Republicans said they feared that ineligible voters would try to cast a ballot.
As a result of the accusations, partisan lawyers and teams of poll watchers were dispersed nationally.
