See this post for good analysis of how viral video undoes politicians who lie about what they really said.
I've mentioned McCain's inability to grasp the implications of YouTube to my roommate and his friends a few times over the past four weeks. What's funny is that a lot of the 30 and under crowd seem baffled that McCain and his campaign just don't get it. I wait tables and work mostly with youngsters who are flabbergasted that there are two videos of McCain, time-stamped within four hours of each other, in which he makes wildly opposite claims. My brother is a professor, teaching digital design, and he, too, says his tech-savvy students just don't understand how anyone, let alone a man attempting to attract their support, just fails to grasp the reality of the age: if you're famous, you are constantly in front of camera and microphone. This, of course, makes me quite happy, for his failure to understand the power of the Internet may well doom his campaign.
